L'Enfant Jésus sous un dais, anonymous, late 1600's -late 1700's. Polychrome wood, glass eyes, gilt leather and human hair. Height : 153cm. Musée d'art et d'histoire de Chaumont.
This ensemble includes a baroque Holy Child (probably from Southern Italy, 1700's) mounted in a gilt altarpiece structure (southern Italy, end of 1700's) decorated with a large fragment of gilt leather (Netherlands, late 1600's). The conservation-restoration of this sculpture, as well as its art historical and scientific study, was the subject of my thesis and continues to be an area of interest. (In-depth research, pest control, consolidation of paint layers, cleaning of all materials, treatment of deformed gilt leather and hair, adhesion, fills, proposition of new right hand, in-painting and stabilization.) For further information, do not hesitate to contact me or consult my articles in OUTREACH.
Madonna and Child with goldfinch, 1350's, Ile-de-France. Alabaster with traces of polychromy. Height : 63 cm. Musée de beaux-arts de Tours. (Treatment carried out during my studies : study, dismantling, removal of old fills, cleaning, application of adhesives and fills.)
Agar and Ismael, François Sicard, 1892. Patinated plaster. Height : 2 meters. Musée de beaux-arts de Tours. (Documentation, cleaning, removal of deteriorated in-paintings, application of dry pastel in-paintings.)
Hair: Two human hair wigs belonging to the Holy child sculptures. (Treatment consisted of pest control, cleaning and conservation-restoration of the deformed curls of hair.) Horse tail from the "Casque du dragon" on OBJECTS.
Leather: Fragments of gilt leather from the Enfant Jésus sous un dais. (Here, the fragments have been removed from the altarpiece, their original shape restored by humidification, cleaned, partially lined from behind and ready to be fixed back on to the altarpiece by application of small magnets.)
Plant fibers and Textiles: various Native American baskets, textiles and clothing. See more on OBJECTS.
Untitled, kinetic art, Jesus Raphael de Soto. Height: 50 cm. Private collection. (Study, cleaning, consolidation of paint layer, fills, in-paintings, protective coating and fabrication of transportation crate. Research I conducted during treatment helped identify the sculpture and important information: it is actually #2 of the series "Jai-alai" and the red metal piece was intended by the artist to hang vertically in front of the striped panels, creating a vibrating sensation of vertical lines on different planes. The client wished to conserve the piece this way in order to respect the unique history of this piece. This work holds a particularly special place in my heart as it was the first piece I conserved as a student in France.)
I have also worked on many types of modern and contemporary art that are made of mixed media, often including paintings, found objects, metal, plastic, rubber, mirrors, etc. For a complete list of these works, see the individual pieces and their locations on EXPERIENCE.
